Hello! Welcome and thank you for visiting. Today's blog post is dedicated to Barrister, Human Rights advocate, Professor, Mother, Wife, Sister and Daughter - Amal Clooney. I remember first hearing about Amal Alamuddin when the entertainment news outlets had breaking news that Hollywood actor and bachelor George Clooney was dating Amal, an accomplished Human Rights lawyer based in the UK.
Since then the entertainment media has throughout the years continued to focus on Amal's fashion choices, her involvement with the Met Gala or photos of the Clooney family vacationing in Italy. Personally, in the past I was always drawn to Amal's fashion sense and loved looking at a new dress she wore to an event or a streetwear ensemble she was snapped wearing.
But one day I was listening to an interview on the BBC with Amal Clooney talking about a case she was representing and the injustice her clients were facing. I remember some of her clients being journalists and their lives and freedom were at risk for doing their jobs; reporting on issues, the truth. I remember after watching the interview being in total awe of Amal. The way she eloquently spoke about her cases, her empathy for victims suffering from unimaginable circumstances and terror. Amal was direct, fearless, extremely detail oriented and really helped provide full insights into these injustices.
Last year I also had the opportunity to listen to a session where Amal was a guest. The focus was on International Women's Day. Amal spoke about her career, her journey as a child to her education at Oxford to the cases she chooses to represent today. It was extremely inspirational. Amal did not talk at the audience. Amal talked with the audience and it felt like you were listening to a friend. She provided details about her journey but also asked questions and really listened. She was completely invested in the audience and was a champion for people to follow their own paths. One of the key areas she focused on was also about taking risks. That most of the time; taking that risk, no matter how it works out, is worth it. I left the session feeling inspired, uplifted and just really grateful that I was able to take part of this special moment.
This is why today's blog post is dedicated to Amal Clooney. Through her work I have learned about various injustices around the world and numerous cases she is bringing into the spotlight. But Amal also reminds me how important it is to just believe in yourself and take the risk. Personally this is always scary to me. Do you ever feel that way about risks or are you someone who thrives with risk? Over time have you grown more confident with taking risks or is it a work in progress? By the way, all answers are great. We all are at different steps in our own journey and personal growth.
Over the past year; I really did learn the valuable lesson of taking a risk and believing in myself. I was not sure of how the outcome would be and I made peace with it. But the outcome was so much better than what I would have ever dreamt. I know it does not always work out that way. But it did give me the little boost of confidence. It also helped push me to continue to grow, take that chance and bet on myself. Have you tried this? Thoughts? Have you had a similar experience? I hope you know, no matter how big or small the chance you may take. Betting on yourself is empowering and you should be proud.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post today. I really appreciate your time and visiting. Wishing you an amazing week ahead! And thank you, Amal Clooney. Thank you for reminding me how it is important to educate myself with various issues and movements around the world. But also the importance of taking chances, leading with empathy and the power of listening. Here's to appreciating, elevating and supporting women who continue to inspire and celebrate their contributions to the world and help make it a better place.
Have a lovely week and thank you!
